I was trained by MAISON MUNZ, the parent company and only international organization authorized to train and certify professionals to the MUNZ FLOOR® method, which was developed in 2004 by former Principal dancer Alexandre Munz. MUNZ FLOOR® has received awards and honors from the French and American governments, and in 2011 it was the subject of a scientific experiment funded by the French government. From personal experience, I can attest that this approach triggers ‘’The Extraordinary Power of Our Fascia in Motion.’’
ARE THESE EXERCISES FOR ME?
Are you a professional dancer? You’ve never practiced any sport in your life? No problem. The MUNZ FLOOR® method is particularly inclusive and the effects are neuromuscular, as the movement strategies trigger reflexes that reveal transformative resources ingrained in everyone’s spine, central nervous system, and fascia system. The resonances are significant and literally immediate: fiber elasticity, intramuscular hydration, cellular regeneration, strong anti-inflammatory effects, joint mobility, movement fluidity and coordination, as well as a substantial improvement or complete disappearance of fibrosis and back pain.
WHY IS FASCIA TRAINING IMPORTANT?
In 2018, the international scientific community declared that fascia, also called fascia system or myofascial system, are the 80th organ of the human body. This viscous, watery, gel-like organ has no beginning and no end, and there are no empty spaces under our skin as it is filled with fascia that surround and interpenetrate everything. In addition to assuring the functioning of all systems (immune, central nervous, vegetative systems, etc.), our fascia system is able to self-produce proteins with regenerative and healing effects. But this powerful gel tends to stick easily and dry out, leading to loss of elasticity, inflammation, fibrosis, and early aging. Through specific movements that make our fascia slide, our muscle fibers and cells regenerate, and the fascia system plays a huge role in our state of mind and our emotions. The same movements produce a motivational boost, hence the other name scientifically given to fascia: « matrix ».
WHAT TRIGGERS THE EFFECTS?
Our fascia system needs to be massaged through rotational forces and counter-forces, dynamic movements that must necessarily be carried out in a constant and extreme slowness; otherwise our matrix simply does not produce anything. By maintaining the pace of these extremely slow spiral pattern movements during class duration, your body self-produces collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, proteoglycans. MUNZ FLOOR® was developed 14 years before the 2018 fascia revolution and, without knowing it at the time, Alexandre Munz created a seamless combination of movement strategies that fascia need, which allowed him to avoid a spine surgery originally diagnosed inevitable. The MAISON MUNZ company now trains health professionals that share the marvels of the fascia system with patients suffering from chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, depression, and more.
MORE THAN MOVEMENT
Two other effects arise while moving in this way: exactly like an osteopathic adjustment, these dynamic circular movements create spaces that decompress your spine. The therapist’s hands here are replaced by the action of your crossed muscle chains, lever muscles that you use when you walk, run, swim, play tennis, golf, dance, etc. Self spinal decompression is twofold: the contraction of crossed muscle chains automatically triggers the reciprocal innervation reflex. In other words, your straight muscle chains relax on the surface and, I can attest, the combination of deep muscle tone and superficial release is an amazingly liberating feeling.
WHAT IS A CLASS LIKE?
You lie on the floor throughout the entire session, so choose a comfortable outfit, and a mat is not mandatory. I utilize a guidance technique developed by Alexandre Munz to teach MUNZ FLOOR® to people who, because they’re lying down, have no eye contact with the teacher and other participants. Because actions speak louder than exercise demos, you’ll learn more details and a lot faster, making MUNZ FLOOR® a dynamic meditation in motion and empowering learning experience.
