I earned my 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher certification in Power Vinyasa Yoga from Dolly Stavros in 2008 and completed my 500-hour training at the Himalayan Institute in the Pocono Mountains in 2013. Utilizing traditional and contemporary techniques, I lead a challenging and adaptable asana class, interwoven with pranayama and capped off with meditation. I teach with a light heart and keen eye for detail, encouraging students to push their capacities with kindness. As practitioner of Ashtanga yoga since 2015, I value rigor and ritualism and strive to serve as an example of a strong personal practice through my words and actions.
WHAT IS VINYASA YOGA?
Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic practice that synchronizes movement with breath to create a sense of flow from one posture to the next. I dropped the “power” from the title of my teachings, as that word indicates a speed, intensity, and level of expectation that I find ineffective. My adaptive classes build heat and utilize rigor through seamless connections interspersed with stillness and thoughtful sequencing. Each movement in the series is linked with inhalation or exhalation, and the transitions between poses are as important as the poses themselves.
The word vinyasa translates from Sanskrit as “arranging something in a special way” and I arrange my teachings to meet to the collective needs of students in the room. My classes vary in focus, intensity, and content but always includes sun salutations, standing poses, balancing poses, seated poses, twists, backbends, and inversions. I thrive on the creativity and agency that Vinyasa yoga offers, allowing me to design a responsive and uniquely tailored sequence. As in my own practice, I emphasize the connection between breath and movement, helping you to personally cultivate strength, flexibility, mindfulness, and resiliency.
